What does the deliberate dissolution of disciplinary boundaries reveal about how these movements understood knowledge itself?

What started out as a research project on several avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century, led to an in-depth focus on The Bauhaus. This body of research was conducted through a summer fellowship through Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Creativity Inquiry.

By allowing the materials at the Harvard Art Museum’s Archive to inform my inquiry, I became malleable to the story it had to tell. This research is the first section of a larger body of work utilizing The Bauhaus dissemination and emigration to hopefully inform critical pedagogy of the present. This inquiry feels timely as institutions of higher education face defunding, low enrollment, shifting political landscape, and commodification.
